Bangkok BTS , also known as SkyTrain, is a mass transit system that is one of the most convenient methods to travel around Bangkok since it allows you to avoid the chaotic and sometimes crowded traffic in Thailand’s capital.
There are now just two lines with 52 stations, however, the Bangkok BTS SkyTrain is developing, and additional stations are expected to be added shortly. The BTS system connects with other Bangkok Mass Transit Systems, including the MRT (Metro) and the Airport Rail Link, at various points.

Finding one of the stations is simple since they are all located above the roadways and are visible from a distance.
There are usually four entrances to the BTS SkyTrain station, and they are all marked.
The station is accessible through stairs and automatic escalators. If you are wary of ascending the steps, just glance about; there should be another entry with an escalator nearby.
Bangkok BTS stations are especially useful for crossing Bangkok’s roadways since they let you access the opposite side of the road or even straight to a retail center without purchasing a ticket.

The cost of a Single Travel Ticket, which is good for a single route on the Bangkok BTS, is determined by the duration of the voyage, with Bangkok BTS fares ranging from 16 Baht to 59 Baht per journey.

Where to buy BTS ticket?
There are a few options for buying Bangkok BTS tickets, however, the most common is to use Ticket Issuing Machines. Most of these devices only take coins.
You’ll need one, two, five, or ten Baht coins (satangs are not accepted). If you don’t have enough coins, just exchange them at the BTS Station Ticket Office.
Choose your location and several cards from the touchscreen (up to 4 at one time).
The total cost of your trip will be shown.
Then, insert the coins. Once you have enough money to pay the fare, your ticket (thin plastic card) will appear in the ticket-dispensing slot. Take the ticket and whatever change you have.
Remember that Single Journey Tickets are only good for travel on the day of purchase!
There are note-accepting machines, but they are few and far between. Not only do these ticketing machines take 1, 5, or 10 Baht coins (2 Baht coins and satangs are not accepted), but also 20, 50, and 100 Baht banknotes (larger banknotes are not accepted). They are more user-friendly, and some of them can even issue many tickets at once.
However, don’t be shocked if you notice ticket-issuing machines that are out of commission regularly.
A Rabbit card or a long-term pass for the Bangkok BTS may also be purchased. Long-term passes and rabbit cards may be purchased at any BTS Station Ticket Office. The rabbit card may also be booked online and picked up at the airport. It’s much affordable this way!

How to use BTS ticket
When you have your Bangkok BTS ticket, continue to the metallic gates. Green arrow indications indicate entrance locations; you must choose one of them.
Insert your ticket into the slot on the metallic section of the gates (see green arrow below) and wait for it to spring out of the slot on top of it (see red arrow below). On newer gates, just tap the marked area with the card.
The gates will then open. Return your ticket and go swiftly as the gates will only be open for a few seconds.
Keep your ticket with you because you will need to enter it into the slot again at the exit, but this time it will not pop out; just the gates will open for you to escape.
Taking Bangkok BTS SkyTrain
When you enter the Paid Area of the Bangkok BTS station, you must choose a platform.
The platforms are named after the line’s last stop, and you just need to pick the proper direction.
To be sure, look at the map on the reverse side of your ticket. Bangkok BTS lines intersect at Siam station, where you may need to change trains and platforms.
When you get to the station, you’ll observe that SkyTrain platforms feature yellow arrows on a black backdrop pointing towards the track and black arrows on yellow background pointing away from the track. You should form a queue behind the yellow arrows on the black backdrop.
The train doors will stop right in front of the black arrows on the yellow backdrop, and people will disembark there.
Inside the train, there’s a map that shows your position as well as other stops along the route. The next station’s name is clearly stated ahead of time so that you can prepare to depart the train.
Don’t worry if you select the incorrect route or miss your station; just switch platforms at the next stop. If you just change platforms and do not exit the Paid Zone, you do not need to purchase a new ticket.
