In Bangkok, you have various alternatives for getting from one airport to another. The easiest method to go from Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) to Don Mueang Airport (DMK) depends on your requirements, as you may take a shuttle bus, public transportation, taxi, or private transfer from BKK to DMK.

A- Free Shuttle Bus between Bangkok Airports

Free Shuttle Bus Bkk To DMK

If you arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and have a domestic or international flight from Don Mueang Airport (DMK) the same or following day, you may take advantage of the shuttle bus service between Bangkok Airports. This shuttle bus is provided for free, although it is far from the cheapest option to go from Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang.

The first shuttle bus from Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang departs at 5:00 a.m., while the final bus departs at 12:00 a.m. Depending on the time of day, the shuttle bus will leave every 12 to 30 minutes. Depending on traffic, the drive from BKK to DMK might take anywhere from 50 minutes to 2 hours.

The free shuttle bus departs from the 2nd level (Arrivals Level) of Suvarnabhumi Airport, outside door 3. Passengers are dropped off on the top level of Don Mueang Airport (Departure Level).

B- Public Transportation from BKK to DMK

If you don’t have a ticket for a flight leaving from Don Mueang Airport that day or the next, the cheapest way to go from Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK)  to Don Mueang Airport (DMK) is to use Bangkok public transportation.

So far, no direct rail service exists between Bangkok Airports. If you wish to take public transportation from BKK to DMK, you must first take the Airport Rail Link train and then change to one of the shuttle buses servicing Don Muang Airport. In general, there are three viable public transportation choices for transferring between airports.

You must descend to the “B” level of Suvarnabhumi Airport to reach the Airport Rail Link stop.

You must take the train from the airport to Ratchaprarop station. The Airport Rail Link ride from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Ratchaprarop station takes around 25 minutes and costs 40 THB.

You may take the A3 bus to Don Mueang Airport from Ratchaprarop station. The bus fare is 50 THB.

Option 2 - Airport Rail Link and MRT and Bus

From Suvarnabhumi Airport, take the Airport Rail Link to Makkasan station. The Airport Rail Link route takes around 22 minutes and costs 35 THB.

You must transfer from Makkasan Station to MRT Phetchaburi Station here. It’s simple since the two stations are linked by a skyway.

Then, from Phetchaburi Station, take the MRT Metro to MRT Chatuchak Park Station. The trip will cost 33 THB.

To get to Don Mueang Airport, take the A1 or A2 bus from the bus stop near Chatuchak Park.

The bus fare is 30 THB.

Option 3 - Airport Rail Link and BTS and Bus

From Suvarnabhumi Airport, take the Airport Rail Link to Phaya Thai station. The Airport Rail Link ride takes around 30 minutes and costs 45 THB.

You must transfer from the Airport Rail Link Phaya Thai Station to the neighboring BTS SkyTrain Station.

Take the train from there to BTS Mo Chit Station and get out at that station. The trip will cost 37 THB.

To get to Don Muang Airport, use the A1 or A2 bus from the bus stop near Mo Chit station. The bus fare will be 30 THB.

It should be noted that all DMK shuttle buses begin service at 7:00 a.m. and are not suited for transfers in the early morning or late at night!

c- Public Transport from BKK to DMK at Night

There is a public bus No. 554 that runs from BKK to DMK airport. This bus goes every 30 minutes to an hour from BKK to DMK at night.

In Bangkok, public buses do not adhere to rigid schedules, thus it may be more or less than that.

D- Taxi from BKK to DMK Airport

The distance between BKK and DMK airports is about 46 kilometers. The taxi ride from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Don Muang Airport should cost about 400-500 THB, not counting tolls and airport fees.

To get such a rate, ensure that the taxi driver activates the meter. You should never agree to a set fare since it is a rip-off.

E- Private Transfer from BKK to DMK Airport

If you want the most comfortable method to commute between Bangkok airports, book a private transport online, and the driver will meet you at Suvarnabhumi Airport with a sign with your name.
