Why Do You Need A Rabbit Card In Bangkok? The Simple Way

Rabbit Card

The Rabbit Card is a rechargeable contactless stored value smart card used in Thailand to transmit electronic payments.

What is Rabbit Cards?

In This Post

Rabbit Cards are Bangkok’s response to the contactless, stored-value cards used on public transportation in other major cities. Hong Kong, for example, has an Octopus card, Singapore has an EZ Link card, and London has an Oyster card.

Bangkok’s Rabbit card operates similarly. Passengers no longer need to purchase individual tickets or tokens to ride the BTS Skytrain. To enter and depart a station, customers just tap their card on a turnstile gate card reader.

Rabbit cards, in addition to being quite beneficial if you intend on using public transportation around the city center, may also be used at a wide range of businesses and restaurants. McDonald’s, Dairy Queen, The Pizza Company, Burger King, The Coffee Club, Bread Talk, Swensen’s, Sizzler, and Family Mart are among them.

Instead of using cash or a credit card, just use your Rabbit card. The maximum amount that a card may be topped up with is 4,000 Baht. As a result, it’s more suited for a quick lunch at a food court, a scoop of Swensen’s ice cream, or a cup of Starbucks coffee than a full-fledged shopping trip.

As an example, If you’re in Bangkok for a few days of shopping, you may use your Rabbit card to commute from downtown Bangkok to Chatuchak weekend market and back. Alternatively, cross the river to the new Siam Icon mall (Bangkok’s biggest) before returning to your hotel or catching the Skytrain down to Thonglor for supper.

You may also use it on the Chaopraya Tourist boat, which is a terrific way to spend the day seeing the sites and riverside attractions in downtown Bangkok.

Take the BTS to Saphan Taksin with your Rabbit card to connect with the Chaopraya Tourist boat.

Rabbit cards may now be used on Phuket’s Smart buses, which travel between the airport and the island’s beaches. In Chiang Mai, you may also take the RTC City Bus. There are four routes available for this service. Two connect the city’s major tourist attractions, while two connect the airport and the city center

Pros of Rabbit Cards

The following are the primary advantages of a Rabbit card:

    1. Using the card is no more expensive than purchasing a conventional subway or Skytrain ticket. In reality, it’s 1 Baht cheaper for every journey.
    2. It will save you a significant amount of time. There is no need to wait in line for change for a ticket machine or at a ticket machine.
    3. It may be used to purchase meals, beverages, and snacks at shopping malls. There is no need to carry a large number of banknotes or coins.

Cons of the Rabbit Card

In terms of disadvantages:

    1. The card cannot be used on Bangkok’s MRT subway or Airport Link trains.
    2. That is the only big disadvantage. It would be ideal if the Airport Link, MRT, and BTS could reach an agreement and let passengers use the same card for all three networks, but this has yet to occur.
    3. There is also a one-time cost of 100 Baht for issuing the card. This, however, is a minor price to pay for the convenience and time saved. And if you take advantage of some of the available deals, the card will pay for itself.

Offers & Discounts

Restaurants and various attractions often give cardholders discounts and promotions.

Check out the current discounts and you’ll notice that it’s simple to save 10 – 15% on burgers, coffee, or doughnuts, for example. Users may also sign up for ‘Rabbit Rewards’ by downloading the app (iPhone) (Android) and attaching it to their credit card.

Holders also get a 150 Baht discount on admission to the Sea Life aquarium in the Siam Paragon mall in downtown Bangkok. This is Southeast Asia’s biggest indoor aquarium.

If you want to take a vacation from shopping, this is a must-see.

It’s in the basement, under the fantastic food court — where you can also use your Rabbit card.

How to Buy a Rabbit Card?
